Jonathan has over 20 years of experience in the field of accounting which includes auditing, financial reporting, regulation of derivatives and securities, and taxation. Jonathan started his career in 2003 as an auditor with the National Futures Association (“NFA”). In 2010, Jonathan took a position with the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (“CFTC”) as a Staff Auditor and then later switched to a Risk Analyst. Jonathan’s mission at NFA and the CFTC include protecting market participants and the public from fraud, manipulation, abusive practices and systemic risk related to derivatives, both futures and swaps. Specifically, his responsibilities include ensuring accounting and regulatory compliance for swap dealers, futures commission merchants, self-regulatory organizations, derivatives clearing organizations, and other intermediaries. In 2016, Jonathan took a position with the Securities and Exchange Commission (“SEC”) as a Securities Compliance Examiner, now Exam Manager, in the Division of Examinations, regulating registered Investment Adviser and Investment Companies. Jonathan earned his Bachelor and Master degrees in Accounting at the University of Illinois at Chicago (“UIC”) in 2003 and 2006 respectively. Jonathan also successfully passed the Series-3 (Commodity Futures Exam) and Certified Public Accountant (“CPA”) examinations and became a licenses CPA in the state of Illinois in 2009.
After graduating, Jonathan quickly decided to utilize the knowledge obtained at UIC by taking control of his own financial situation. In 2004, Jonathan filed his very first tax return and decided to hold himself out to family and friends as a tax preparer. During Jonathan’s tenure with NFA, CFTC, and SEC, he continued to prepare tax returns for various clients as well as perform other accounting related services such as consulting, financial statement preparation, bookkeeping, budgeting, etc., while obtaining his master’s degree and CPA license. Based on his passion for performing accounting services, Jonathan decided to expand his business and services by creating DTA for the purpose of delivering tax and accounting assurance to existing and new clients.
Even though Jonathan is always busy performing regulatory and accounting services, he does find time to enjoy what life has to offer. In his spare time, Jonathan spends a lot of time with family, attending church, and doing volunteer work.
